Column Guard™ System Spec Sheet
Column Guard™ System
Patents 6,173,809 • 6,439,344 • 6,688,427 and others pending.
Low cost and useful where the Beamguard™ cannot be
used due to obstructions on the top of flanges. Convenient
for walking eave struts, purlins, or rafters to connect
iron, set purlins and hoists, install insulation, metal decking,
roofing, HVAC, roof vents, skylights, etc. nique design of
post minimizes hardware and eliminates the need for shock
absorbers in the cable, making installation simple with less
adjustment. Offset outboard or inboard of beam surface to
allow for free movement even while carrying purlins, joists,
tools or materials along a beam. Rafter Guard™ is
mounted to the rafters as you erect them — the post
position allows for the roof and flashing to be installed
while fully protected. Install two sets on beam lines
and use a cable between two sets for crossing interior
floor beams and joists. Leave on the building from
initial erection until the building is closed in. Standard
size mounts to any column over 4´´ flange
(up to 2-1/8´´ thick) for safety of workers walking
on rafters or purlins to connect beams, rafters, purlins,
and girders. QuickRods™ are interchangeable with
other Preferred Safety Products. Meets OSHA required
fall protection — 15´ ironworkers, 6´ all other trades.
All steel – no nylon or plastic parts to get cut, burned,
or weakened in the sun! Standard shock absorbing
lanyards (i.e. 900 lb. Preferred Safety Series 231, 234 or
equal) or retractables (i.e. Preferred Safety 511RLWD-11 or
520RLCD-20 or equal) may be used on the horizontal lifeline
and two workers may work within any two poles. Other workers
may work on the system as long as poles separate them from
others. Any reasonable number of lightweight intermediate poles
may be used in one line, with an end pole at the terminating end,
and workers can travel long distances. Preferred Safety is proud
to offer products that are designed for and by erectors in the
field. The new system is added to the Guardline™, a total system
that covers virtually all erectors’ exposures. Other products included
in this family are the best-selling Beamguard™, Concrete Guard™,
Bridge and Form Guard™, and Rafter Guard™.
